DIGITALK (News - Alert), a vendor of Carrier, Consumer and Mobile platforms and applications to wholesale communications providers worldwide, recently launched SBC VoIP Peering Release 4, the latest version of the carrier routing platform. The new version comes with features like Wholesale Billing, simple release mapping configuration to accommodate distinct carrier signalling requirements, and greater control over customer call rate limits.

The new Wholesale Billing feature provides fully integrated billing and invoicing solution for wholesale termination providers. The feature provides advanced invoicing features required to support billing for prepaid and postpaid wholesale services, removing the need to deploy a third party solution. Invoices can be generated automatically on a billing cycle or ad hoc as required. It supports the creation of credit notes and payments tracking to maintain live customer balances. The feature introduces flexible billing cycles, WYSIWYG invoice template configuration, credit notes and invoice distribution by email, with multiple export formats.

Paul Bassa, VP Product Marketing at DIGITALK, said that "Release 4 demonstrates DIGITALK's commitment to SBC VoIP Peering (News - Alert) as the complete solution for competitive wholesale service providers. Following a number of significant updates in 2012 to accommodate features such as US Jurisdictional Routing and LNP, the addition of Wholesale Billing in Release 4 continues the momentum in 2013."

Meanwhile, DIGITALK recently launched the DIGITALK Consumer Cloud, a hosted environment enabling service providers to offer prepaid consumer applications without any infrastructure investment. Consumer Cloud applications include Broadband Telephony for residential VoIP services, Prepaid Cards for disposable calling card services, and Prepaid Residential for PINless calling and indirect access services. The DIGITALK Consumer Cloud enables service providers to launch, extend and expand prepaid consumer services without having to acquire, install or maintain any platform equipment. With the Consumer Cloud, DIGITALK allows these capabilities to be available on a fully hosted networking and service management facility, making it even simpler to establish and grow prepaid consumer services.

The Evolution of Session Border Control
Session Border Controllers have come a long way since they were first conceived in the early 2000s as a simple, security-focused element. As service providers and enterprises began deploying more advanced real-time applications over IP-including Unified Communications, video, instant messaging, and conferencing-the burden on SBCs grew in step.
