DSC Market is Positioned for Strong Future Growth

The DSC market has strong potential for future growth, according to a new report by Exact Ventures, which indicates that the Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) market in 2012 grew more than ten-fold as compared to the growth in 2011.This projected growth in the DSC market is largely attributed to the growth in LTE (News - Alert) subscriptions.

"As service providers continue to introduce sophisticated applications and data plans that require many different network nodes to continually exchange information with policy, subscriber databases, and billing systems, the DSC market will be vital and mission critical to operators for years to come," said Greg Collins, founder and principal analyst at Exact Ventures, in a statement.

Exact Ventures report shows that growth in LTE subscriptions comprised less than one percent of total global mobile subscriptions by the end of last year. Service providers will have to add DSC capacity as the number of LTE subscriptions grow in number over the coming months.

Readers of Exact Ventures' DSC Vendor and Market Forecast Report, 2012-2017 will gain useful insight into forecast of DSC revenues. They will also know about the transaction per second licenses shipments and average selling price, for both core network and roaming/interconnect use cases.

Currently the market is led by Tekelec and is followed by Acme Packet, Huawei (News - Alert), and F5 Networks. Service providers can expect more competition in the future due to increase in the volumes and entry of new vendors in the market.

"Interest from network operators in the form of RFIs and RFPs, many of which are requesting millions of transactions per second (Tps) of capacity, reinforce our expectations for DSC market growth," added Collins.

Last year, Exact Ventures said it estimates $1 billion in cumulative DSC product revenues by 2016.

The Evolution of Session Border Control
Session Border Controllers have come a long way since they were first conceived in the early 2000s as a simple, security-focused element. As service providers and enterprises began deploying more advanced real-time applications over IP-including Unified Communications, video, instant messaging, and conferencing-the burden on SBCs grew in step.

The ABCs of PCI DSS + VoIP
As the boundaries between VoIP and IP-based data networks continue to blur, enterprises would be wise to apply the same levels of network security across all entrypoints. Session border controllers are designed to protect VoIP network borders from unauthorized entry, but not all SBCs are created equal in terms of security features and functionality.
