TMCnet Session Border Controller Week in Review

Well, it’s official; 2013 is here! And the year got off to a fast start with lots of interesting news from all over the technology and telecommunications space. It was, as usual, a big week for the session border controller space, so let’s take a look at some of the top stories from the week!


First this week was the news that Retarus, a provider of professional messaging solutions, had selected Sonus Networks’ (News - Alert) session border controllers to help meet the growing demand for cloud and IP-bases services. “Retarus depends upon the reliability, scalability and flexibility of Sonus SBCs to enhance and protect their reputation as a leading provider of Fax over IP services,” said Serge Adam, vice president of EMEA at Sonus. “The Sonus SBC portfolio is purpose-built for the most demanding network requirements so customers can have peace of mind that their selection is a good one.”

Also this week came the news that Dialogic (News - Alert), a developer of products and technologies that enable operators to provide an enhanced mobile experience, had won the INTERNET TELEPHONY Product of the Year Award. The product in question was the BorderNet 2020 session border controller. “We are honored to have won this award. Gateways are holding some service providers and enterprises back from transforming their networks to IP, while still others are not yet ready to make that transition. The ability of the 2020 SBC to act both as a gateway and an SBC enables its customers to transition at their own pace from legacy TDM to IP networks, with the comfort of knowing that when their networks are transitioned fully to IP that they won’t need to upgrade their SBC,” said Jim Machi, VP Marketing at Dialogic.

Finally this week came the news that MIPS Technologies (News - Alert) joined forces with Ingenic Semiconductor to develop a MIPS-based SoC. “We congratulate Ingenic on its latest accomplishment with the highly competitive JZ4780. Its combination of high performance, power efficiency and cost-effective design demonstrates the advantages of the MIPS architecture for mobile devices such as tablets. Now that the MIPS architecture is completely supported in Android releases from Google (News - Alert), Android devices based on MIPS can take advantage of a broad range of applications, while leveraging the long battery life and great user experience that MIPS can enable," said Gideon Intrater, vice president of marketing, MIPS Technologies.
