SIP communications provider Sonus Networks (News - Alert) today made a major change to its management team, appointing Serge Adam as vice president of EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa).

Adam will be responsible for sales, marketing and service in the EMEA region, which he has more than 20 years experience dealing with, while also overseeing day-to-day operations in the area.

Before joining Sonus, Adam served as managing director for the service provider services sales organization at Cisco (News - Alert) Systems, and prior to that, was vice president for Tandberg, a video conferencing vendor now owned by Cisco, in Southern EMEA and Latin America.

Adam was also the CEO of Business Services Switzerland at Orange Business Services (News - Alert) immediately prior to his time at Tandberg. Other positions he held include EMEA roles at both Netsize and IBM.

As Sonus continues to do its part to help businesses around the globe make the move to SIP-based communications and the cost savings that go along with it, Adam is now responsible for helping enterprises in EMEA do so. He is also expected to draw on his experience to help service providers create new services that enable the growth of business while the SIP transition advances.

Recently, Sonus announced that its upcoming pair of new session border controllers, the SBC 1000 and SBC 2000, will be the first branch appliances to offer Microsoft Lync 2013 qualification. These two SBCs also offer access control list capabilities for better security and improved quality in the event of wide area network (WAN) failures.

Indeed, during such events, the SBC 1000 and SBC 2000 are capable of handling both intra-branch voice calls and IM sessions.

In October, the company was positioned by Gartner in the "Leaders" quadrant of the "Magic Quadrant for Session Border Controllers," which focuses on incumbent SBC vendors and those that have developed competing products for communications service providers in the past two years.
