With the acquisition of Network Equipment Technologies (News - Alert), Sonus has bolstered its stable of session border controller offerings. The NET UX line of session border controllers was well suited to the needs of small and medium businesses. Now these SBCs have been rebranded and have become an integral part of Sonus’ plans to be the end-to-end provider for companies that wish to deploy unified communications solutions.

The SBC 1000 offers a host of features that will benefit the small and medium business owner. It has full SBC SIP security, demarcation policy and interworking functionality. This feature allows for complete enterprise/ITSP demarcation point services such as network topology hiding, transcoding, IP transport conversion and signaling/media encryption. It boasts multi-ITSP registration with optimized routing. It also has built-in network address translation and prevention of denial-of-service attacks as well as call admission control for security and quality.

The session border controller also provides a Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync-enhanced gateway/survivable branch appliance for small and mid-sized offices. This is a multiservice router and VoIP gateway with branch office survivability as well as a session border controller with NAT function and network topology hiding. In addition, the SBC provides highly flexible connections for SIP, legacy PBX (News - Alert), analog and PSTN. It can scale up to 600 users and 96 simultaneous sessions. For more information on the SBC 1000, click here.
