Tango Telecom recently announced that Release 2.0 of its iAX SMS IP-SM Gateway for all IP LTE (News - Alert)/IMS networks is now globally available. The latest offering from Tango Telecom incorporates improved capabilities for delivering message interworking support and ensuring that messaging revenue for operators is secured as they make the transition to IP LTE/IMS networks.

In a release, Kieran Kelly, CTO of Tango Telecom (News - Alert), said that, “Text based messaging remains hugely popular and a very significant revenue earner for operators worldwide. Messaging revenues are predicted to continue growing for the next several years, despite the threat from diverse and incompatible OTT services. In fact, SMS is emerging as the single de-facto standard for interoperability and communication with legacy handsets and applications. It is critical to the rapid ramp up and success of LTE that early adopters can still avail of the existing mass market communications on newer devices. ”

While the global rollout of LTE/IMS core networks has already begun, these essentially are leveraged for providing broadband access. The success of global deployments of LTE/IMS technology as well as its ensuing benefits which include faster time to revenue and ROI are subject to how quickly leading revenue earning services can make the shift from legacy technologies to the all IP core technology.

Tango Telecom’s IP-SM Gateway (News - Alert) which has been successfully deployed for a number of LTE networks across the globe providers operators with benefits which include - extensive support for SMS and IP based messaging interworking for service continuity and securing messaging revenue; compatibility with a number of RCS and IP based IM messaging services; interoperability with GSM and CDMA networks; multi-device and multi-screen delivery support; support for faster migration of other services into the LTE/IMS core so new services are developed only once; high level of reliability and scalability even for the most demanding Tier 1 networks across the globe; and a number of other self- care and charging related features that support faster deployment.

The Evolution of Session Border Control
Session Border Controllers have come a long way since they were first conceived in the early 2000s as a simple, security-focused element. As service providers and enterprises began deploying more advanced real-time applications over IP-including Unified Communications, video, instant messaging, and conferencing-the burden on SBCs grew in step.

The ABCs of PCI DSS + VoIP
As the boundaries between VoIP and IP-based data networks continue to blur, enterprises would be wise to apply the same levels of network security across all entrypoints. Session border controllers are designed to protect VoIP network borders from unauthorized entry, but not all SBCs are created equal in terms of security features and functionality.
