SIP communications provider Sonus Networks has announced that the company’s SBC 5000 series of session border controllers (SBC) has been tested and certified in Microsoft’s Unified Communications (News - Alert) Open Interoperability Program for Lync Server 2010. According to Sonus, SBC 5000 series includes the SBC 5100, which delivers 250 to 10,000 sessions, and the SBC 5200, which supports 64,000 sessions on a single server.
By achieving this certification, service provider, enterprise customers and resellers can be confident that SBC 5000 series products interoperate with Microsoft's (News
- Alert) unified communications solutions featuring Lync Server 2010, said Sonus.
Consequently, by deploying a Lync-based unified communications solution with Sonus SBCs, an enterprise can begin leveraging the benefits of real-time communications and a simplified network topology without replacing their legacy PBX (News - Alert) solution, stated Sonus. Per supplier’s description, Sonus SBCs provide secure access to SIP trunking, which should enable enterprises to reduce costs and deliver new applications (such as unified communications and video) across their entire network. SIP trunking, trunking consolidation and the move to VoIP can reduce traditional enterprise telecom bills by up to 75 percent, claims Sonus.
In a statement, Ashima Singhal, Lync Group Product Manager, at Microsoft Corp, said, "The Sonus SBC 5000 series provides a great option for combining Microsoft Lync into a legacy IP telephony infrastructure and activating the full suite of Microsoft Lync voice communications capabilities."
"In particular, Sonus' strengths in interworking allow enterprises to take advantage of their legacy voice applications infrastructure and use SBCs to enable a smooth migration to SIP trunking and help create a truly unified communications network centered on Microsoft Lync," added Singhal.
Likewise, commented David Tipping (News - Alert), vice president and general manager of SBC at Sonus, “The formal certification of the Sonus SBC 5000 portfolio helps ensure that service providers and enterprises can reap the benefits of SIP-based applications like unified communications in a seamless manner as they deploy Microsoft Lync.”
A study commissioned by Sonus found that the move to SIP Trunking can save on average 33 percent versus traditional solutions. The study was conducted by Webtorials.
