Genesys (News - Alert) has certified the Enterprise Session Border Controller (E-SBC) from Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies, products and services provider AudioCodes.

This certification allows AudioCodes (News - Alert) E-SBC to be used with Genesys SIP Server 8.x and positions AudioCodes as a complete connectivity partner for Genesys, their systems integrators and reseller partners.

AudioCodes E-SBC helps secure connectivity to SIP trunking and remote agents, and provides the ability to integrate SIP server with mobile devices.

E-SBCs also play an important role in providing connectivity to highly distributed businesses.

“This important certification demonstrates our vision to provide an easy migration path from legacy TDM environments to pure SIP services using a common platform,” said Sharone Ben-Levi (News - Alert), VP Marketing and Business Development North America at AudioCodes. “Together with our unique SIP Select gateway position and our IP Phones and Session Experience Manager, we are simplifying Genesys customers' and integrators' connectivity and quality monitoring needs.”

AudioCodes E-SBCs is based on the Mediant hybrid platform that enables users to pace migration from TDM to IP, phase project costs and mitigate concerns and risks by supporting a hybrid TDM/IP connectivity mode on the same device.

Genesys and AudioCodes have also established a certification lab in North Carolina as part of a joint effort to help contact center customers adopt SIP trunking.

This facility will simulate an entire distributed Genesys contact center environment and offer SIP trunk ongoing validation and certification services.

“AudioCodes Mediant E-SBC architecture is closely aligned with Genesys strategy to migrate legacy call centers to our state-of-the-art and standards-based SIP contact center software," added Richard Barton, director, Product Management, at Genesys.

AudioCodes designs, develops and sells advanced Voice over IP (VoIP) and converged VoIP and Data networking products and applications to Service Providers and Enterprises. The company was in news earlier this year for announcing that they have retested their answering machines detection algorithms, and the program has succeeded in all important areas.

The Evolution of Session Border Control
Session Border Controllers have come a long way since they were first conceived in the early 2000s as a simple, security-focused element. As service providers and enterprises began deploying more advanced real-time applications over IP-including Unified Communications, video, instant messaging, and conferencing-the burden on SBCs grew in step.

The ABCs of PCI DSS + VoIP
As the boundaries between VoIP and IP-based data networks continue to blur, enterprises would be wise to apply the same levels of network security across all entrypoints. Session border controllers are designed to protect VoIP network borders from unauthorized entry, but not all SBCs are created equal in terms of security features and functionality.
