AdvanIDe Announces Company's First Contactless Reader Modules, Simplifying System Development for a Broad Range of Near Field Communications (NFC)-Enabled Products

(GlobeNewswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SINGAPORE, Nov. 4, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AdvanIDe, the leading independent provider of semiconductors for the smart card and RFID industry, today announced the company's first contactless reader modules including plug-and-play readers, OEM boards and chipset solutions. Targeted at the fast-growing market for NFC-enabled products, the new reader modules include an OEM board for customers who want broad customization options, and a plug-and-play reader board that adds the necessary functionality for a complete, immediate solution. AdvanIDe also offers chipsets and a licensing option for clients that require highly integrated printed circuit boards (PCBs) and cost-optimized bill-of-materials (BOM) for high-volume NFC deployment.

"A number of mobile handset manufacturers have launched NFC-enabled smartphones, and industry analysts are projecting rapid growth in unit shipments for these and other NFC-enabled mobile devices," said Holger Winterhalter, Head of Line Management with AdvanIDe. "As a key element of the industry's growing NFC product and technology ecosystem, our new reader modules leverage our extensive expertise in RFID component technology, and will play an important role in accelerating development of NFC-enabled products for applications including access control, security, cashless payment, vending, object identification, automatic fare collection, e-ticketing, office automation, e-vouchers, NFC based loyalty and advertising displays." AdvanIDe aims to enhance the NFC infrastructure by offering its clients four options: 1. Plug-and-play readers complete with antenna, security access module (SAM) and USB interface – for pilot programs and proof-of-concept stages or low-volume implementations. Available in two versions: the r-MOD board supports basic NFC reader functionality, while the m-MOD board supports all NFC functionality including peer-to-peer (P2P) connectivity; 2. OEM boards with universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART) interface and custom-designed antenna – for medium- to high-volume projects and production runs where space constraints require a customized antenna design; 3. Chipset bundles with AdvanIDe's reader software loaded onto a microcontroller unit (MCU) combined with NXP contactless reader ICs – for high-volume implementations and full customization by the OEM; and 4. Firmware license and reader IC bundle – lowest-cost and highest-volume option.

AdvanIDe's new NFC reader boards include drivers that are available for all popular operating systems and use the C# programming language to speed integration with PC-based systems and services while simplifying design-in, customization and support.  The new NFC plug-and-play readers, OEM boards and chipset solutions are available now. For additional technical details about these products, please contact nfc@advanide.com. AdvanIDe will be exhibiting its new NFC modules and the entire AdvanIDe NFC portfolio at CARTES 2012, November 6-8, 2012, in Booth #4J014, Hall 4 at the Paris Nord Villepinte, Exhibition Centre in Paris.  About AdvanIDe AdvanIDe - Advanced ID Electronics - is one of the leading silicon distributors, focused on components for RFID transponders, chip cards and RFID readers and terminals. The Evolution of Session Border Control
Session Border Controllers have come a long way since they were first conceived in the early 2000s as a simple, security-focused element. As service providers and enterprises began deploying more advanced real-time applications over IP-including Unified Communications, video, instant messaging, and conferencing-the burden on SBCs grew in step.

The ABCs of PCI DSS + VoIP
As the boundaries between VoIP and IP-based data networks continue to blur, enterprises would be wise to apply the same levels of network security across all entrypoints. Session border controllers are designed to protect VoIP network borders from unauthorized entry, but not all SBCs are created equal in terms of security features and functionality.
